October 2000. sgblue, inc. announced today that the CAP™ Clean Air Plant model CAP-1250 has received a Class 1 Division 2 approval rating from Underwriters Laboratory (UL), a nationally recognized laboratory that tests for electrical specifications. Designed to exhaust and eliminate fumes from pits, dynamometer systems and other explosive atmospheres, the CAP 1250, among other things, enables auto repair stations to meet NEC regulatory requirements for exhausting pits without venting.
Gasoline vapors are heavier than air and tend to collect and concentrate in pit areas. It is for this reason that four out of five dynomometer models used in New Jersey do not meet NEC requirements. The presence of a calibration motor that can create sparks and heat from the magnetic resistance heater requires more than venting to meet NEC regulations. According to a letter from the Department of Community Affairs of New Jersey, "the dynamometers are listed under UL 201 and contain parts that may produce sparks or arcs."
Like the other CAP™ Clean Air Plants which improve indoor air quality, the CAP 1250 uses a unique biological process to eliminate fuels, solvents, smoke, toxic fumes and gases from the air as well as pit areas. These contaminants can build up in pit areas causing unhealthy situations and potentially hazardous atmospheres. CAPs destroy all organic contaminants in air, including carbon monoxide, benzene, hydrocarbons, NOx and MTBE.
The CAP 1250 is a major advancement in the treatment of air pollution Venting, which merely moves air pollution from one area to another, can increase energy needed to cool or heat air and is ineffective for spills or pits. CAPs have no filters to replace, consume little energy, and do not contribute to additional air pollution.
CAPs are designed and distributed by sgblue, inc.., an environmental biotechnology company located in Arden, North Carolina. The company develops and markets innovative solutions for air and water pollution.
