"Being in the business for over thirty years, you get so you don't even notice the odors, but our customers do", says Pat O'Brien. The company's odors consisted of acetic acid, sulfites and ammonium thiosulfite from the photo processing baths.
"We tried to find ways to eliminate the odors but nothing work." Over the years they tried several types of systems. Ozone air cleaners didn't work and carbon filters needed to be replace too often and were costly. "It really hit home that something had to be done when, after just five years, we had to replace a 15 ton HVAC unit because the fumes had corroded it beyond repair."
About that time an article in the Townsend Newsletter mentioned the CAP™ Clean Air Plant, a natural biological treatment for indoor air pollution. "After getting information from the website, we called to have our place checked out." Based on the size of the facility, the layout, and the level of contaminants in the air, a decision was made to place a CAP 90 in a central location to treat fumes throughout the building. Another unit, was placed in a darkroom that is used continuously by their employees.
"Within a week, clients started to ask what we were doing. They noticed a big difference in our air."
CAPs use biological oxidation, a natural process, to destroy organic contaminants, eliminate odors and remove particulates from the air. CAPs do not require replacement filters, are easy to maintain, and do not contribute to additional pollution.
