August 1997. A new, portable indoor air cleaning system for indoor air quality is now available for auto technicians and auto repair shops. The CAP™ Clean Air Plant uses a unique biological process to destroy organic contaminants and remove heavy metals emitted from automobiles and industry. CAPs eliminate fuels, solvents, smoke, toxic fumes, and gases from the air, including carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) nitrogen oxides (NOx), ozone, and MTBE.
Designed and manufactured by sgblue, inc., the "CAP-90" portable unit was inspired by Bill Willix, President of the Mechanics Education Association (MEA) of New Jersey. MEA, a non-profit network for auto technicians, trains, informs, and educates its members on safety techniques, health risks, and cutting edge technologies available to the industry.
When Bill heard about the industrial model CAP™ Clean Air Plant, he met its designer, Dr. Sam Sofer, President of sgblue, inc. and urged him to build a small model for use in auto repair shops. Bill knew first-hand about the dangers of breathing carbon monoxide and other pollutants associated with automobiles. After demonstrating that the CAP-90 actually DESTROYS air pollution instead of just filtering or venting it, Bill has recommended its use to his MEA members. Many MEA members that have used CAPs in their auto garages to clean the air in their working environment have purchased additional units for their offices and homes.
The CAP™ Clean Air Plant is a major advancement in the treatment of air pollution. CAPs destroy organic contaminants biologically by oxidation. Unlike existing air filters, CAPs' biological process eliminates gases, fumes, solvents, smoke, and odors. Venting, which merely moves air pollution from one area to another, can increase energy costs and is ineffective for spills or pits. CAPs have no filters to replace, consume little energy, and do not contribute to additional air pollution.
A variety of CAP sizes is available. The size of the area to be cleaned and the amount of contaminants determine the model size that is needed. The CAP-90 can clean the air in shop areas up to 5000 sq.ft. or from 2 to 4 bays. Because the CAP-90 is portable, it can be placed anywhere in areas of high pollution concentration to minimize hazardous exposure or in case of accidential spills. Larger explosion-proof systems are available for use in combination with dynamometers.
